Why it’s on the route

Little River Roasting is run by Gervais Hollowell, who bought the small company in 2001 and began by roasting in his garage; it grew out of Spartanburg's old Hub City Coffee. The roastery and headquarters now sit at Fretwell, a redeveloped cotton-gin site on the Mary Black Rail Trail, where the coffee bar shares space with a stage, a lawn and a visiting food truck. A second bar runs downtown beside Hub City Bookshop on West Main Street.
