Worth a detour
Rio de Janeiro · Copacabana, Brazil
Why it’s on the route
Café ao Léu was opened in Copacabana in February 2019 by former barista Léo Gonçalves, who began roasting in a corner of the shop before moving the micro-roastery to a larger space in São Cristóvão. He also bought a coffee farm in Caparaó, whose first harvest placed eighth at Coffee Of The Year 2021. The bar pulls espresso on a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle and brews V60, Aeropress and cold brew, with a cachaça coffee in the late afternoon.
