Worth a detour
Mexico City · Coyoacán, Mexico
Why it’s on the route
Café Avellaneda is run by Carlos de la Torre and roasts its own coffee on a 2 kg hot-air roaster, cupping every batch. It buys from Mexican producers, always keeps a coffee from Zaragoza, Oaxaca on the espresso menu, and each month develops manual-brew recipes for three selected coffees. The space is a very small bar in La Concepción, Coyoacán, that doubles as a roasting nook and gives each coffee a technical sheet instead of a menu.
