Why it’s on the route

Alpine Modern Café is the coffee shop of Lon and Lauren McGowan's Boulder lifestyle brand, set on University Hill near the Chautauqua neighbourhood. When it opened, Middle State Roasters supplied the house coffee with a guest roaster featured each month, served as espresso and batch brew. The small room is finished in Douglas fir with a chevron motif nodding to the Flatirons, and a covered patio is added in cooler months.
