Why it’s on the route

East Pole was co-founded by Jared Karr, whose name for it nods to Indonesia, where he worked with coffee farmers; it began roasting in a Grant Park garage before opening its Armour Yards roastery café in 2017. In the walnut-and-brass room the roaster runs behind glass, and the bar offers about six seasonal single origins as espresso, batch brew and Kalita Wave pour-over.
