Why it’s on the route
Joe Bean was founded by Ben and Kathy Turiano with Dena Jones, who opened their first café on University Avenue in 2011 before outgrowing it. The company now roasts on a 10-kilo Proaster in a renovated warehouse on Blossom Road in North Winton Village, sourcing through importers and more direct partners such as Truth Trading Company in Guatemala. Across from the roaster, a bar pours espresso, drip and V60 or Chemex pour-overs beside high-top tables under roughly 40-foot ceilings.
