Why it’s on the route

King State was started by former touring musicians Nate Young and Tim McTague, who began roasting in a garage in 2014 and in 2019 opened this roastery café in a converted 1950s gas station in Tampa Heights. Coffee is roasted on site on a Proaster, with full lots bought from farms such as La Flores in Honduras, and served as espresso and carefully measured batch brew. A long bar adds sixteen beer taps, and garage doors open onto seating under the old station canopy.
