Why it’s on the route

MUD, known to regulars as Mudspot, is an East Village coffee shop and all-day restaurant serving its own brand of coffee, mostly as batch brew. The kitschy room draws downtown locals and NYU students, and out back a patio sits under a stained-glass roof.
