Why it’s on the route

Water Avenue Coffee was founded in 2009 by Matt Milletto and others, with its flagship café at SE Water Avenue and Taylor Street in the Central Eastside warehouse district. It roasts its own coffee and became known for projects such as barrel-aged beans, and in 2024 the company was sold to Harder Day, run by the founders of Steeplejack Brewing, who kept the name and staff.
