Why it’s on the route

Dharma Boutique Roastery continues Margo Redjo, a coffee factory founded by the Tan family in the 1910s, and is now run by the third generation, Widayat Basuki Dharmowiyono, from a heritage-listed colonial house in Semarang's Chinatown. Beans are still roasted on an old gas drum roaster with no temperature control, cranked and judged by hand. Visitors buy beans such as Temanggung Lanang, Gayo and Kayu Aro and can have a cup in the courtyard under an old tanjung tree.
