Why it’s on the route

Mel Coffee Roasters is a roughly 8 m² shop and roastery in Shinmachi, run by Masa and Rie and named for Melbourne, whose coffee culture inspired it; the couple returned to Osaka in 2013. Masa practised roasting on a borrowed machine for a year and a half before buying his own, and has moved steadily toward lighter roasts, including a very light option. Coffee is served as hand drip and as espresso drinks.
