Why it’s on the route

Zē-roku began in 1913 selling egg crackers and became a kissaten in 1947, and the Honmachi shop near Sakaisuji-Honmachi still has a worn, Showa-era interior with about a dozen small seats. It is best known for its ice cream monaka, light old-style ice cream filled into a crisp wafer to order and often bought to take away. Coffee is roasted in-house and brewed by nel drip.
