Why it’s on the route

Horoka is run by Hardy, a former Taiwan hand-brew champion, in a renovated triangular concrete building at the end of a lane near Ximen. From the open high bar you can watch him brew single-origin pour-over, with lattes made on medium-light roasts. Desserts are a big part of the visit, notably an Oreo-sesame chiffon cake made by the owner's mother, in a room of concrete floors, sofas and plants.
