Why it’s on the route

Backlot was opened in 2017 by Isaac Bloom and John Kim in the former Bow Truss space on Avondale Avenue, and has since grown into a small group with cafés in Evanston. It started out pouring Stumptown but now roasts its own beans and bakes goods locally. Look for the mural by poster artist Jay Ryan and occasional collaborations such as a gin-barrel-aged white tea.
