Why it’s on the route

Bridgeport Coffee has been roasting on Chicago's South Side since 2004, led by Mike Pilkington, using a fluid-bed roaster that roasts with hot air to keep the coffee balanced rather than bitter. The original coffeehouse at 31st and Morgan is a warm, wood-heavy room where the pour-over is the thing to order, alongside the house Hardscrabble espresso blend. The company also runs a few other cafés and sells beans wholesale.
