Why it’s on the route
Cartel was founded in Tempe in 2007 by Amy and Jason Silberschlag and has grown into one of Arizona's best-known roasters, now trading as Cartel Roasting Co. with cafés across the Phoenix area and Tucson. The downtown Tempe flagship is a large, sprawling space that grew room by room, with the roastery alongside. Its menu centres on single-origin coffees, offered as filter through V60, Chemex, Clever and AeroPress as well as espresso.
