Why it’s on the route

Catalina was designed and built by Max Gonzalez in his early twenties and opened in 2007 in a brick storefront on Washington Avenue in the historic Sixth Ward, making it one of Houston's longest-running specialty bars. Its coffee comes from Amaya, the roastery Gonzalez also founded, poured as espresso from a La Marzocco Strada, EK43-ground batch filter and slow-drip cold brew from Yama towers. It is a no-frills commuter and neighbourhood bar, with no Wi-Fi.
