Espresso Vivace

Why it’s on the route

Espresso Vivace was founded in 1988 by David Schomer, a former Boeing engineer, and Geneva Sullivan, starting as a cart before settling on Capitol Hill. Schomer is credited with popularising latte art in the US and with an engineer's focus on espresso temperature stability, and Vivace still roasts its own blends for a strictly espresso-based menu. The flagship in the Brix building on Broadway is the main bar now that the long-running sidewalk stand has closed.
