Why it’s on the route
Heart was founded in 2009 by Wille Yli-Luoma, a former pro snowboarder, and his wife Rebekah, and this East Burnside shop is the original café, built around a black Probat roaster. The coffee is light and Nordic-leaning: the seasonal Stereo blend for espresso and single origins sourced on farm visits, some named after their producers, brewed by hand. The room is spare and Scandinavian in feel, and there is deliberately no Wi-Fi.
