Why it’s on the route

Nirvana Soul was opened in 2020 in San Jose's SoFA District by sisters Jeronica Macey and Be'Anka Ashaolu, and is known as the city's first Black women-owned coffeehouse. The pink-accented room has sidewalk seating and a mezzanine that hosts open mics, live music and community events. The menu leans into creative drinks such as ube-coconut lattes and banana chai, plus waffles; it has since added cafés at SJSU's King Library and in Cupertino.
