Why it’s on the route
Pappalecco was started in San Diego in 2007 by Francesco Bucci, who grew up near Pisa, together with his brothers Giovanni and Lorenzo. It is run as a Tuscan-style neighborhood café, pairing Italian espresso with house-made gelato, panini and salads, plus beer and wine. Besides this Little Italy shop, it has several other locations around San Diego.
