Why it’s on the route

Rivers and Roads is the former Ellipsis Coffeehouse on Devon Avenue, bought by Chicago natives Mike and Janine Waszkowski and rebranded in 2023 with a national-park theme. The wood-lined, cabin-style room has a large outdoor space, and the baked goods, including big sequoia cookies, come from Janine's bakery, Bake Me Wild. The owners run community events and keep up composting and reusable cups.
