Why it’s on the route
Rowan was founded in 2020 by Bow Smith, a former Black Tap and Hex Coffee roaster, and began roasting in-house in 2023 after starting as an espresso cart and a downtown café. This West Asheville roastery café opened in 2025 in a former auto garage, with a walnut-and-brass bar, green handmade tile and a 15-kilo roaster on view; mostly washed coffees are served as espresso, batch brew and pour-over.
