Why it’s on the route
Safai Coffee was started in 1998 by Mike and Medora Safai with a tiny drive-through kiosk and grew into a Louisville roaster focused on direct-trade, organic coffee. Since around 2009 Mike has worked with smallholder farmers in Marcala, Honduras, funding rust-resistant replanting and community projects through the SAFAI Foundation. The Bardstown Road café roasts micro-lots and serves single origins and espresso drinks.
