Why it’s on the route

Shortwave was founded in Columbia in 2014 by Dale Bassham, who named it after his father's and grandfather's radio repair work and roasts in small batches on a San Franciscan roaster. The original bar sits in an alley off Ninth Street, a wood-panelled, lo-fi room with a record player and a short menu built around espresso from a lever machine and pour-over. The family-run company has since added cafés in Tampa and St. Louis.
