Whittier Cafe

Why it’s on the route

Whittier Cafe has been part of its namesake neighbourhood for about a decade, run by owner Millete Birhanemaskel, who sources coffee from African countries. Every Sunday there is a traditional East African coffee ceremony, and the café hosts rotating art shows and social-justice events. A justice fund covers coffee for people who otherwise could not afford it, and African wines and beers are poured on the semi-enclosed patio.
