Why it’s on the route
Tropicalia was founded in 2021 by Paola Laguna and José Alberto Rosero, who earlier ran Bourbon Coffee Roasters and Colo Coffee, and it roasts under its own Tropicália Tostadores label. It buys directly from small producers and helps with post-harvest work, organising its coffees into three lines that include women-grown lots and competition coffees. The El Retiro café brews V60, Chemex, AeroPress and espresso and runs cuppings and workshops.
