Cafe Bach
Tokyo · Minami-Senju, Japan
Special experience
Why it’s on the route
Cafe Bach was opened in 1968 by Mamoru and Fumiko Taguchi in the old Sanya district near Minami-Senju, and Mamoru became one of the figures who shaped Japanese home-roasting from the 1980s. Every bean is still roasted on the premises, with the roaster on display, and coffee is brewed by paper drip, a method Bach adopted early when cloth drip was the norm. The shop trains roasters from across Japan and supplied the coffee for the 2000 G8 summit in Okinawa.
