Why it’s on the route

Chatei Hatou has been brewing coffee near Shibuya Station since 1989, in a two-storey room of dark wood and shelves of antique porcelain. Coffee is hand-dripped one cup at a time and served in cups the staff pick from the collection, with chiffon cake, which often sells out, and croque monsieur on the side. It is one of Tokyo's best-known classic kissaten and draws many visitors.
