Why it’s on the route

Coffee Lodge Akaishi is a long-established kissaten in Asakusa's Kannon-ura area, a quiet, old-fashioned room of about 36 seats with tables either side of the door and a counter ahead. Food draws much of the crowd, notably the Nouille, a buttery seafood flat-noodle dish, plus Napolitan and a fried-shrimp sandwich. The house blend is dark and full, with a lingering bitter finish.
