Why it’s on the route
Motomachi Santos has been a fixture of Kobe's Motomachi shopping street for around 60 years and is tied to Hagiwara Coffee, a local roaster that has charcoal-roasted beans since the early Showa era. The small 15-seat kissaten is best known for its hotcakes, cooked to order on an iron griddle to the recipe used since opening, served with slow-dripped coffee. Sandwiches round out a short, traditional menu.
