Why it’s on the route

Caffè Umbria was started in 2002 by Emanuele Bizzarri, a third-generation roaster whose family had earlier founded Torrefazione Italia, and is roasted in Seattle in the Italian style. The Pioneer Square flagship opened on Occidental Avenue in 2005, mixing the neighbourhood's exposed brick with Italian tile and ceramics. Expect espresso drunk standing at the bar, with panini, pastries and gelato alongside.
