Why it’s on the route

Contrast was founded in 2016 as a roastery and café in Iron River, with the aim of building craft coffee culture in Michigan's Upper Peninsula; it roasts seasonal coffees on a 10-kilo Mill City roaster there and runs cafés across the U.P. The Marquette shop, its largest, has big windows, a bar along the back wall and open communal seating, with espresso, batch brew and a slow bar for pour-over and Chemex, plus locally baked goods.
