Why it’s on the route

Higher Grounds is a Traverse City wholesale roaster led by Chris Treter, whose work with coffee farmers in Chiapas, Mexico shaped its direct-relationship sourcing. Its coffee bar sits beside the roastery in a former laundry building at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons, shared with Left Foot Charley winery, with tile, wood, tall windows and a patio. A large selection of its own coffees is available as pour-over, and drinks come in ceramic mugs rather than takeaway cups.
