Why it’s on the route

Velodrome is owned by Brice Sturmer, who opened it in 2017 with a focus on single-farm, traceable coffees roasted in its own small roasting room, aiming for the sweet middle ground between medium and light. In 2023 the café moved from Washington Street to a larger space on North Third Street, and the company has since added a café on the Michigan Tech campus in Houghton.
