Why it’s on the route

The Mothership is Dark Matter's roastery and coffee bar on Western Avenue, opened to customers in 2014 by a company led by founder Jesse Diaz. The front room is painted like a carnival wagon or stage set, with red curtains, a gilded clock and a chalked daily menu, while two large Steinmetz roasters work in the back amid pop art by local artists. It is mostly a stop for coffee to go.
