Why it’s on the route

Grand Coffee is a tiny, roughly 200-square-foot espresso bar that Nabeel Silmi opened on Mission Street in 2010. After eight years serving Four Barrel, it began roasting its own coffee in 2018 on a Probat at the shared Pulley Collective in West Oakland. Beyond espresso and inexpensive drip, the menu has playful drinks such as a tepache-inspired pineapple soda and Korean misugaru; a larger sister bar, Grand Coffee Too, sits a few blocks up the street.
