Why it’s on the route

Herkimer was founded in 2003 by Mike Prins, who named it after his father's hometown in upstate New York, and added a roaster beside the Phinney Ridge café in 2007. Roaster Scott Richardson travels to origin and buys much of the green coffee directly, aiming for long-term relationships. The espresso is built for an old-world style, heavy-bodied and sweet with restrained acidity, served in a deliberately small café on Greenwood Avenue.
