Why it’s on the route

Madcap, the Grand Rapids roaster founded by Trevor Corlett and Ryan Knapp, opened this small 900-square-foot bar on Farmer Street, attached to the Shinola Hotel, in 2019. The minimal black-and-white room, designed by longtime collaborator Seth Herman, has tall windows that open in summer for walk-up service. Expect espresso, rotating single-origin pour-overs on Kalita Wave and Modbar, batch brew and cold brew.
