Why it’s on the route

Portola Coffee Lab was opened in Costa Mesa in 2011 by husband-and-wife Jeff and Christa Duggan, who roast on U.S. Roaster Corp. machines and were named Roast Magazine's Micro Roaster of the Year. The original OC Mix bar is an island-style counter where you can walk around and talk with baristas, with V60 and siphon on the brew menu, and the small Theorem bar next door experiments with coffee as an ingredient.
