Why it’s on the route

Steady State was founded in Carlsbad in 2015 by Elliot Reinecke, a former professional cyclist, and its name nods both to cycling and to the chemistry term. The small-batch roaster takes a measured, test-driven approach aimed at showing terroir, variety and processing, and buys from farmers it has mostly met in person. Its State Street café pours those coffees as espresso and pour-over.
