Why it’s on the route

This is where Stumptown began: Duane Sorenson opened the first café on SE Division in 1999, in a former beauty parlor called Hair Bender, a name he gave to the company's signature espresso blend. Stumptown became one of the defining roasters of American third-wave coffee, known early on for paying farmers well above market. The flagship keeps a long wooden bar, exposed beams and big windows, serving espresso, drip and cold brew with vegan pastries from Shoofly and Sparrow.
