Why it’s on the route

Cavalry Coffee has roasted since 2009, starting in Duy Nghia near Hoi An, and builds its own roasting machines, from 2kg to 45kg. At the Nguyen Duy Hieu café, an open wooden building catching the breeze, bags of beans line open shelves and espresso is pulled on a machine the team built themselves. The company also runs workshops on phin brewing, salt coffee and traditional wood-fired roasting.
