Special concept: worth seeing for what it is
Café Wien Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi
Tokyo, Japan
Why it’s on the route
Café Wien sits on the second floor of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi main store, where it opened in 1983 as a Viennese-style coffee house. The menu follows Vienna recipes, and the shop describes itself as the first in Japan formally recognised as carrying on the Viennese café tradition. The signature is Peach Melba served in a swan-shaped glass, in an elegant room inside one of Tokyo's oldest department stores.
