Why it’s on the route

Sabouru has been a Jimbocho fixture since 1955, its cottage-style front marked by a carved totem pole among the area's secondhand bookshops. Inside, the dim, rambling room of wood and brick is covered in customers' scribbled messages and keeps its Showa-era feel. Beyond coffee, people come for multicoloured cream sodas, pizza toast and a morning set, with Napolitan pasta served at the sister shop next door.
