Why it’s on the route

Ladrio opened in 1949 in a back lane of Jimbocho, its name taken from the Spanish word for brick, and is known as the first place in Japan to serve Wiener coffee (coffee topped with whipped cream). It has long been a haunt of writers: novelist Go Osaka heard flamenco there and later learned of his Naoki Prize at the café. After dark it shifts toward a bar, with wine and cocktails.
