Why it’s on the route

Rokuyosha has been part of Kyoto's Kawaramachi since 1950, founded by Okuno Minoru after he ran a coffee stall in Manchuria; it is now run by the second and third generations. The basement shop, a bar from 1969, began serving daytime coffee in 1986 when second-generation owner Osamu started roasting there, and it still roasts in-house. Order a cup with the homemade doughnuts by day; after 6pm the mid-century room turns back into a bar.
