Special concept: worth seeing for what it is
Blue Bottle Coffee
San Francisco · Hayes Valley, United States
Why it’s on the route
Blue Bottle's Hayes Valley kiosk is a converted garage in Linden Alley, opened by founder James Freeman as one of the company's first permanent spots. Baristas work from a small raised platform, serving espresso and pour-over to a line that forms in the alley, and the Hayes Valley Espresso blend now used in Blue Bottle cafés worldwide is named after it. It is a walk-up window rather than a sit-down café.
