Why it’s on the route

City Roots opened in 2019 inside the Electric Depot, a former power plant on Government Street turned mixed-use complex, founded by Matt Saurage of the Community Coffee family as a separate venture. Coffee is roasted in-house on a Loring S7 Nighthawk and served from a Modbar espresso setup, batch brew and automated pour-over, plus nitro and draft cold brews. A U-shaped bar sits at the centre of the brick-and-concrete room, lit by tall factory windows.
