Why it’s on the route
Dark Horse was founded in 2013 by brothers Daniel and Bryan Charlson, originally from Hawaii, and has grown from a single Normal Heights shop into a group of cafés around San Diego plus one in Hawaii. The coffee is roasted in San Diego and bought largely through direct-trade relationships in Latin America. The North Park shop is small, with a few window seats, serving pour-over, drip and straightforward espresso drinks.
